馬蒂亞斯·布赫納：最偉大的在世德國人

Ricky Jay's research here is obsessive in the best way — he tracks down engravings and documents that most historians had given up on. The reproductions of Buchinger's micro-calligraphy are printed clearly enough that you can actually study the tiny lettering. A strange, slim book I've already lent

I picked this up after seeing the engravings reproduced at full page size, and I didn't expect a book about a calligrapher to read like a mystery. The plates of his micro-writing are genuinely hard to believe until you're holding them in front of you.

Ricky Jay's depth of knowledge is obvious on every page — there's real archival research here, not just recycled trivia. Buchinger's life story is genuinely fascinating, though I found myself wishing for more reproductions of the original prints to fully appreciate the artistry.
