Category: Mechanical Puzzles

This floral take-apart puzzle was inspired by the shape of a morning glory. Two five-pointed blooms are riveted together and a silver helix-shaped ring is looped through both layers. By rotating the flowers and spinning the ring, it's quite easy to weave the pieces into different configurations. The movement is fun and satisfying, almost like a fidget toy. However, the ultimate goal is to separate the helix from the flower. A very tricky challenge indeed. Designed by Akio Yamamoto of Japan. Manufactured by Hanayama of Japan.

The two riveted petals and that silver helix ring feel sturdier than I expected for something so small. I keep it on my desk and fidget with the ring during calls, then actually try to solve it when I need a break.

Took me a solid ten minutes to work out how the two blooms separate, and I actually enjoyed that it wasn't obvious. The riveted petals have a nice brushed finish that catches light without being flashy, and the ring spins smoothly once it's free.

Wasn't sure how tricky this would be but the morning glory shape makes it harder than it looks, which I love. Rotating the silver helix ring to free both five-pointed blooms took me a solid ten minutes the first time. It's small enough to keep on my desk and I've already picked it up a dozen times t
