The hungry Grizzly Bear crouches by the riverside and plucks a leaping salmon from the churning rapids...

Master Craftsman Peter Chapman has developed a wonderful technique for carving single pieces of wood into three-dimensional puzzle sculptures that move and articulate like the animals they represent—and for an added touch of whimsy, each animal hides a prize inside its belly. The painstaking craftsmanship and unique sequential solving experience make these wooden artworks feel particularly special.

The Grizzly Bear measures approximately 11" tall and is cut from Mahogony with leather ears. Made in the USA.

The way that salmon is carved mid-leap out of the rapids is almost photographic—I kept stopping just to study the piece shapes. Chapman's single-piece technique really shows in the bear's fur, which feels impossibly organic as you fit it together.

Took me three rainy afternoons to finish, but that crouching bear mid-salmon-snatch scene is so alive it barely feels like a puzzle. The way the river water pieces interlock is incredibly satisfying.

The way Chapman carves each piece so it locks into the next is pure artistry—I found myself just staring at the bear's paw and the salmon mid-leap before even starting. It's a challenging build, but the fit is so satisfying that every connection feels like a small win. I've already cleared a spot on
