Sakura Kawadu-zakura is an early-flowering cherry blossom variety discovered in Kawazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, around the 1950s. Known for its particularly early blooming season, it attracts many tourists who gather around February 10th to celebrate the Kawazu-zakura Festival, marking one of the first signs of spring. The festival lasts for a month, drawing crowds to Kawazu Town in search of early spring beauty. This reflects humanity’s long fascination with time, stretching back to the discovery of ancient ambers preserving million-year-old life. Our desire to freeze moments in time may stem from a deeper curiosity about our existence or the wish to capture fleeting beauty. Sola Cubes, crafted by Usage No Nedoko in Kyoto, embody this philosophy. These cubes combine traditional Japanese values of reverence for nature and appreciation of overlooked elements. Encased in hand-polished crystal clear acrylic resin, each cube holds a preserved leaf, seed, or flower, offering a meditative glimpse into nature’s beauty—similar to Kuramata’s “Miss Blanche,” but using real organic materials.

I wasn't expecting to be so taken with something so simple, but the early-blooming Kawadu-zakura detail really makes it feel like a piece of springtime. It sits on my desk catching the afternoon light, and I catch myself just staring at those tiny blossoms.

The tree’s early-bloom timing is spot-on—it’s like having a piece of spring sitting on my shelf in late February. The little blossoms are so delicate up close, and the cube catches light in a way I didn’t expect. I catch myself staring at it more than I’d like to admit.

I’m not usually one to write reviews, but this little cube with the Kawazu cherry blossom has completely changed my desk vibe — the early-blooming detail feels like spring is right there every morning. The petals are so delicate and lifelike, I keep catching myself staring instead of working.
