The reproduction quality of the prints is what sold me, every tessellation and impossible staircase comes through crisp on thick paper. I've flipped through it three times already and still catch new details in the background of his sketches.
I'd always wondered how Escher actually constructed his impossible geometry, and this book finally makes it click. The way it ties his optical illusions to both science and psychology gives it a depth most art books don't bother with.
The way this book breaks down Escher's impossible geometry alongside the scientific and psychological concepts behind it is absolutely fascinating. The print quality really makes his illusions pop off the page.
